Dear EDHS Community,

I am writing to you today with an update regarding a potential project coming to El Dorado High School in the future. You may recall that last year, I shared that the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) began the process of evaluating the feasibility of installing permanent lights on our field located on the northwest corner of the school property. It is important to note that a project of this scope involves a multitude of requirements to be met before work may begin.

As such, in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines, the district prepared a Notice of Availability (NOA) to provide formal notification that the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) is available to review and that the 45-day comment period has begun. The DEIR addresses the environmental effects associated with the implementation of the proposed project. A copy of the NOA and DEIR are available to view on the district’s website at www.pylusd.org/edhsfieldlights. This information is also being distributed to residents and businesses in the vicinity of the campus and responsible agencies.

Pursuant to established CEQA Guidelines, responsible agencies and interested parties may submit any comments in response to the DEIR no later than 45 days after receipt. The public review period commenced on April 3, 2023, and will close on May 17, 2023. Any person wishing to comment on the DEIR may provide written comments by the end of the public review period at 5:00 p.m. on May 17, 2023, by using this form.

The 45-day comment period allows the public and agencies the opportunity to comment on the DEIR either in writing or at a public meeting. The district will hold two public hearings during the 45-day comment period, one on April 11 and another on May 9, at regularly scheduled Board Meetings. Meetings begin at 6 p.m. at the District Office, located at 1301 E. Orangethorpe Ave. Placentia, CA 92870. 

As I mentioned, the process to install field lights is a complex one. I will be sure to keep you updated about the next steps and other applicable information relative to this proposed project; however, I ask that you please direct comments to the district’s comment form or attend one of the public hearings.

Les escribo hoy con una actualización sobre un proyecto potencial que llegará a la Escuela Secundaria El Dorado en el futuro. Puede recordar que el año pasado, compartí que el Distrito Escolar Unificado Placentia-Yorba Linda (PYLUSD) comenzó el proceso de evaluación de la viabilidad de instalar luces permanentes en nuestro campo ubicado en la esquina noroeste de la propiedad escolar. Es importante señalar que un proyecto de esta envergadura implica multitud de requisitos que deben cumplirse antes de poder iniciar la obra.

Como tal, de acuerdo con las Pautas de la Ley de Calidad Ambiental de California (CEQA), el distrito preparó un Aviso de Disponibilidad (NOA) para proporcionar una notificación formal de que el Borrador del Informe de Impacto Ambiental (DEIR) está disponible para revisión y que el plazo de 45 días El período de comentarios ha comenzado. El DEIR aborda los efectos ambientales asociados con la implementación del proyecto propuesto.
