This past summer, El Dorado teacher Sunshine Cavalluzzi was honored with the Grammy Museum’s Jane Ortner Award which was presented at an awards luncheon where First Lady Michelle Obama was the speaker. The award honors educators who use innovative ways to integrate music into education. Cavalluzzi who teaches government, advanced placement government, economics and contemporary world affairs, was honored for a lesson called “Money, Money, Money—Musiconomics!” The lesson addresses several academic state standards and calls for students to examine music and its relationship to the economic condition of the nation at the time.
