Together Everyone Achieves More
"Everyone Matters, Everything Matters, & Everything is Possible!"

WELCOME to the home page of the El Dorado High School Physical Education Department!  We are excited to have the opportunity to tell you about our dynamic and innovative program at EDHS in which we strive to empower students to learn, grow, and develop in the spirit of community, unity, and family.  Systematically designed curricular and instructional strategies prepare students to become Physically Literate and develop an awareness and understanding of physical education, equipping them to master and utilize essential 21st century skills (i.e., critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, & kinesthetic movement).  Students are challenged and encouraged daily to move beyond their fears and/or comfort zones regarding physical education in order to achieve quality personalized fitness/wellness goals that will serve them for a lifetime!

We offer a diverse and multifaceted curriculum in a co-educational setting. Specifically, the foundation of the physical education curriculum includes required comprehensive 9th grade (Course One) and 10th grade (Course Two) classes, based upon the state framework. Team sports, individual activities, as well as personalized physical fitness assessments are emphasized at these grade levels (i.e., swimming, tumbling, soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football, self-defense, ultimate Frisbee, tennis, track and field, stretching, weight training, and cardio/conditioning as well as ongoing physical fitness assessments known as the FITNESSGRAM).  Additionally, lifelong fitness and beginning/intermediate dance courses are offered for 10th grade students.  Also, students at the 11th and 12th grade levels (Course Three) are encouraged to continue their commitment to lifelong fitness/learning by participating in a variety of elective courses (i.e., advanced weight training, lifelong fitness, and yoga).  Key character qualities such as teamwork, self-discipline, responsibility, perseverance, and goal setting are developed and stressed throughout all physical education courses at EDHS.
